In
1996, as experienced home care nurses, we established Harbor Health
Services. Even as nurses we had problems locating help for our elderly
parents whom we thought would "never forget our names, forget
to take their pills, change their clothes or eat." We had searched
for the ideal solution for our parents and knew that home care was
the best alternative to being in an institution. Our personal experiences
strengthened our belief we could assist others to deal with this
difficult problem of caring for and understanding their loved ones
through illness and advancing age while remaining in control and
independent at home.
Although
Harbor Health planned to serve a large geographical area we identified
the downriver area as being underserved and chose to locate our
home office in Marine City. The agency's service areas are the counties
of: St. Clair, Macomb, Wayne, Oakland and Sanilac.
In
the year 2000, to meet the demand for new services, the company
was divided into two separate corporations. Harbor Health Services,
Inc. and Harbor Health Private Care, Inc. The focus of the agencies
differs in that Health Services provides skilled care to patients
confined to their homes and Private Care offers services to patients
who may not require skilled care and are not necessarily homebound.
Harbor
Health Services, Inc. is a full-service agency that offers service
to clients across the age continuum. The services of nurses, physical
therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, medical
social workers, nutritionists, and home health aides are provided.
The physician, insurance company or hospital discharge planner may
make referrals. Friends or family may also make referrals for an
evaluation. All services are under the direction of the patient's
physician.
Harbor
Health Private Care, Inc. is a full-service private duty agency.
Our services include homemaking, respite care, and transportation
to appointments. The services of nurses, therapists, social workers,
and aides are also available.
We
know that whatever the prognosis or diagnosis, most people want
to remain in their own homes. We also know people heal better emotionally
and physically in familiar surroundings. We are committed to helping
people stay home with dignity for as long as possible while maintaining
their optimal physical, mental and emotional health. We place great
value on our commitment to being an agency focused on patients and
quality.
